I think the article was good, except for the part about Shed 2. It seems to me that the Farmers Market wants people to think that Shed2 is closed, however there are vendors selling and thriving for business currently in Shed 2. I am not sure how the Market expects to gain business for Shed 2 when they are not giving any press to the business that are there now. The Dallas Farmers Market can be a huge success if they promote ALL vendors. Other farmers markets around town also have non food related items and they are promoting those items.

Today people are not only looking for fresh vegetables but other natural products like Soap, Coffee and even Dog Treats. If people know they can get such product at the Dallas Market they will come for those products and also shop for vegetables. The city has spend a lot of money on Shed 2. I am not sure how they expect to gain tenants if they don't promote the ones they all ready have!

Bill Neely, VP of the Friends, sent me a link to a great article that will embellish our sentiments on buying local. The article gives us 8 reasons why local food is better. Check the following link to "The Daily Green" to see:

Thanks for your thoughts Stacy! It's hard enough for some to make ends meet. And even more difficult to eat right when on a budget. When you have several choices at the same price, doesn't it make even more sense to choose local food!?

It's time for Dallas to recognize that there is no better "home land security" than food.
By supporting our regional farmers and producers we are ensuring a thriving vital food system for our region. Let's keep talking about this! With food prices rising, we can't keep the same old system, rather, we need to expand on the existing model.
Thanks for bring attention to this issue!
